Family Cinema Harrogate
The Bromberg family had recently completed a 5m x 7m extension to their house, which included a pitched cathedral-like roof. Into it they wanted to install a bespoke home cinema, big enough for the family of six to enjoy the movie and relax at the bar. The installation had to maintain the feature vaulted ceiling and be completed in just three months.
The vaulted ceiling was the first challenge that this install presented to the Clearly Automated team. Cinemas are not usually installed into such buildings and the acoustic problems had to be overcome before any work could commence. Taking inspiration from Leeds Town Hall, a very popular classical music concert venue which also features a cathedral style ceiling, the team installed specially designed curved acoustic panels above the screen and seating area. Acoustic walls complete the room treatment and all feature integrated and hidden LED lighting used to create moods within the room.
Hiding the cinema equipment was paramount to maintaining the architecturally interesting features of the room. Christian and the team installed specialist loudspeakers, including two powerful subwoofers, behind the 3.2m wide acoustically transparent cinema screen. To achieve the requisite surround sound effects, similarly discreet speakers from the same manufacturer, to ensure tonal consistency, were positioned around the room. A state-of-the-art projector system adds that true cinema feel to the movies sourced from the Blu-ray player and Apple TV. All content, audio and video control and the lighting is controlled using the iPad, making the cinema simplicity for anyone to use.
Towards the rear of the room, and integrated into the lighting system, the handmade glass bar adds a visual focal point and serves as a relaxing place to sit and enjoy a drink before settling down into the specially commissioned, reclining, crocodile skin, cinema seats to enjoy the film.
By utilising the company’s in-house expertise in lighting, audio, video and system control and its extensive contacts with the best manufacturers, the project was delivered on time and on budget. The clients were delighted with the finished result, finished in time for their family Christmas celebrations.
